Neuro Rehab Program
The Neurological Rehabilitation Program has been developed in consultation with Dr. Mihai Dimancescu, using his experience with neurological deficits, knowledge of other rehabilitation programs, and his long-term follow-up of severely brain-injured patients.
The programs are tailored to each individual's needs based on their neurological examination in conjunction with the clinical staff.
The program utilizes the following therapies and state of the art equipment to benefit those patients that meet the criteria for being a neuro rehab candidate.
The Quadriciser is a motorized total body therapy system that offers a wide variety of therapies to those who are unable to move by themselves. Those who are unable to walk can simulate reciprocal movements of walking while lying in the supine position. This cross-crawl pattern stimulates the brain and improves muscle function.
The Quadriciser's motor and mechanisms passively do all the work or the patient can actively do as much as they are able.
Some of the conditions the Quadriciser may benefit are Multiple Sclerosis, Stroke Patients, Dementia, COPD, Cerebral Palsy, Spinal Cord Injury and Traumatic Brain Injury.
The Quadriciser can help increase range of motion, circulation endurance, gait stability, mental alertness and speech cognition. The benefit of this therapy includes reduction of joint pain, muscle spasms, swelling, pressure sores and contractures.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Hyberbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), is a medical treatment that enhances the body’s natural healing process. The treatment takes place in a state-of-the art chamber and patients breathe 100% oxygen at pressures greater than standard atmospheric pressure. Park Avenue’s hyberbaric chamber is made of a full length clear acrylic cylinder allowing for unobstructed views for the patient and staff. HBOT is approved by the American Medical Association and the FDA as a form of therapy for a variety of medical conditions. It has been in use for more than thirty years and is receiving greater recognition as the potential for medical applications grows.
The benefits of HBOT are improved wound healing, increased oxygen delivery to injured tissues, greater blood vessel formation, reduced swelling, decreased risk of infection, stimulation of new bone formation, diminished effects from toxic substances, and strengthening of the immune system.
The M.A.S.S. Rehabilitation rail system is the ultimate tool for providing aggressive gait and balance training. It allows dynamic movement and rapid changes in direction due to the freely mobile trolley and lightweight height adjustment system. The harness provides patient security and eliminates the fear of falling. The rail system can also be used to provide unique gravity reduced exercises and functional training activities.
Vitalstim therapy uses small electrical currents to stimulate the muscles responsible for swallowing. Through rehabilitation therapy trained specialists help patients re-educate their muscles.
It has been demonstrated that depression, confusion, and functional decline associated with neurological infarct or disease is evident when there is a lack of visual and auditory stimulation.
We provide a Sensory enriched environment with Visual, Olfactory, Gustatory, Auditory and Tactile Sensory Stimulation.
Repetitive simple and complex passive and active movements, has proven to increase motor function performance. Spasticity reduction massage, stimulation and exercise, tailored to each individual's needs, will also be part of the recovery process.
Many neurological conditions contribute to a decrease in the ability to balance. Various vestibular training techniques such as positional, base platform variations, and motor based therapies, will be used in each patients rehabilitation program.
Cognitive skills may be improved, strengthened and enhanced regardless of a person's age. Language improvement, attention enhancing tasks, and simple problem solving will facilitate this growth in the individual's program.
Medical research of memory deficits and memory loss caused by a neurological condition has resulted in new explanations and treatment techniques. Notes, lists and repetitive neurological exercises will be utilized to improve memory retention.
